The British Fashion Council Recognizes Tommy Hilfiger’s Career

THE BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL AWARDS THE AMERICAN DESIGNER FOR HIS CAREER AT THE 2021 FASHION AWARDS.

Tommy Hilfiger will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award from the British Fashion Council at the Fashion Awards 2021 to be held on November 29 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

“We are delighted to honor Tommy Hilfiger with the award for outstanding achievements. With over 35 years in the business, his contribution to the fashion industry is truly exceptional,” said Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council.

The Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes its winners for their contribution to the evolution of the fashion industry. Other recipients of this award have been Giorgio Armani, Miuccia Prada, Ralph Lauren, Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour, and Manolo Blahnik, among others.

This award adds to Tommy’s extensive list of accolades. In 2012, Hilfiger won the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. In 2020, he won the Design Legend of the Year Award given by British GQ magazine.

SOBRE TOMMY HILFIGER

Tommy Hilfiger was born in 1952 in Elmira, New York, the second of nine children of a jeweler and a nurse.

In 1969, amidst the boiling hippie movement, Tommy Hilfiger joined by founding his first business called People’s Place, a hippie fashion store in his hometown. This business was very popular among college students and had up to 3 branches.

In 1980 he moved to New York where he worked at Jordach until, with the financial support of businessman Mohan Murjani, he founded the company bearing his signature, Tommy Hilfiger, in 1985.

In 1995 he received the Men’s Wear Designer of the Year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Throughout the 1990s, Tommy Hilfiger set trends and revolutionized fashion marketing and advertising.

The company’s investments in ambitious advertising campaigns successfully positioned the brand globally, highlighting the launch campaign for the brand’s male fragrance, in which $15 million was invested.

Tommy is a reference in the industry for his iconic campaigns, runways, and his support for charitable causes such as breast cancer prevention, sustainability, and inclusion.
